The truth about ATS rejection
You've probably read that software rejects 75% of resumes before a human sees them. That number traces back to a 2012 sales pitch by a company selling resume optimisation, with no study behind it (HiringThing).
In a 2026 study of US recruiters, 92% said their ATS doesn't automatically reject resumes on formatting or match scores, and only 8% set it to turn applicants away on keyword thresholds (Enhancv, via IT Brief). It was a small study (25 recruiters) by a company that sells resume tools, so read it as a direction rather than a precise figure.
So the real risks are quieter: a recruiter searches for “SQL” and your resume doesn't come up because the skill sits in an image, or your email comes out as gibberish from an icon font. Those are exactly the things this checker finds.
Questions
Do ATS automatically reject most resumes?+
The often-quoted "75% of resumes are rejected by ATS" traces back to a 2012 sales pitch with no study behind it. Most systems store and rank applications for a recruiter to search. What matters is that your text can be read and found.
Is my resume stored?+
No. The file is read in memory to run the checks and is never saved. Only an anonymous count of checks is kept.
Why does my designed resume score badly?+
Text in images, text boxes, columns and icon fonts often comes out scrambled or missing. The "What the ATS sees" panel shows the raw text, so you can see the problem yourself.
Should I add every missing keyword?+
Only the ones you can honestly back up in an interview. Stuffing skills you don't have is easy to spot and hard to defend; missing ones are better treated as gaps to talk about.
Does it work for a CV?+
Yes. In the US and Canada the document you send with a job application is usually called a resume, and a CV often means a longer academic record. In the UK, Ireland, Australia, India and much of Europe, the same application document is called a CV. The checker reads either.
What's the difference between this and Jobworthy?+
This checks the resume you already have. Jobworthy writes a tailored resume and cover letter for each job you choose, keeps them ATS-clean, and blocks any line it can't trace back to your real experience.
